Power Audio Editor is a digital-audio editor for home studio recording and for powerful audio editing.
Pros: Power Audio Editor application provides a variety of audio recording, mixing, editing, analyzing and effects processing opportunities. You can use it to record your own music, voice or other audio, edit it, mix it with other audio or musical parts, add effects like Reverb, Chorus, and Echo, and master it so that you can burn it to a CD, post it on the World Wide Web, or e-mail it. Audio files can be converted from one format to another that includes MP3, WMA, WAV, Ogg Vorbis and others. Coupled with the powerful editor and the effects that can be used the audio clips produced can be used to enhance effects of website pages, PowerPoint presentations or Flash animations.
Recording is as 2 channel stereo through the sound card, the package automatically identifies the audio card available. One can monitor the amplitudes appearing on each channel graphically. Inputs can be selected out of several possible ones.
Editing is quite easy. Users can select individual channels or both stereo channels together for doing the editing. One can apply cut/paste kind of editing on the waveform representation as easily as if it was being done on sections of text. Undo helps correcting mistake easy, should there be any and the user can start over again. Thus it is equally suited for professionals as well as amateurs learning their way around. A variety of audio effects and filters are available for use including Echo, Delay, Flanger, Reverb, Phaser, Quick Filters, FFT Filter, Amplify and so on. Use waveform or spectral view to analyze what needs to be one on the piece being edited and then correct shortcomings if any.
Cons: Nothing problematic noticed.
Overall a well designed application with easy to use interface. Takes a bit of learning for amateurs but one is able to learn quickly. Overall rating of 4 stars is well deserved.
